Rishi Sunak to meet US President Biden in America on Monday – ahead of big defence spending announcement | The Sun

RISHI Sunak will meet Joe Biden in the US on Monday ahead of a major defence spending announcement.

The PM will announce a multi-billion pound plan to purchase vital military equipment.

And he'll confirm the sale of nuclear submarines to Australia as part of a new trilateral security pact with the US and Aussies.

Defence Secretary Ben Wallace has been pushing Mr Sunak to boost defence spending, particularly in light of the war in Ukraine and global instability.

A No10 spokesperson said: "I can say the Prime Minister will be in the US on Monday for discussions on AUKUS with President Joe Biden and the Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.

"On Monday, the government will also publish the update to the integrated review of security, defence, development and foreign policy."

Mr Biden and Mr Sunak are also likely to discuss the new Windsor Framework, with the US President taking a strong interest in Northern Ireland because of his heritage.

The Brexit deal announced a fortnight ago will end the so-called “sausage wars” that saw two years of border chaos over goods and trade in the province.

EU red tape that hampered meats, sarnies, parcels and even seed potatoes being exported from mainland Britain have been abolished in a major win for the UK.

And gods will freely flow into the province from the mainland unrestricted, with Northern Ireland brought back under Westminster’s tax and VAT regime.
