Pensioner dies after explosion destroys Edinburgh home | The Sun
AN OAP has died after a home was completely destroyed by an explosion.
The horror blast shook Baberton Mains Avenue in Edinburgh last night around 10.25pm.
Emergency crews were scrambled to the scene after receiving scores of 999 calls about the incident.
Five fire engines were deployed to the street and police sealed off the area.
Two people, 43-year-old woman and 54-year-old man, had to be rescued from the pile of rubble where the house once stood.
The pair were rushed to hospital after being dug out from the remains of the house.
Tragically, police confirmed an 84-year-old man died after the blast.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "An 84-year-old man has died following an explosion at a house in Baberton Mains Avenue in Edinburgh.
"Officers received multiple reports following the incident around 10.25pm on Friday, 1 December, 2023.
"Emergency services attended and a 43-year-old woman and 54-year-old man were taken to hospital for treatment.
