A shocking video has emerged of a teenager driving his Ford Fiesta into a lorry at speeds of over 100mph after a police chase – as he was spared jail.

Oliver Clark, 19, from Grimsby, failed to stop for police in Cleethorpes in Lincolnshire last July, resulting in a chase along the A180 eastbound to Barnetby.

The teenager admitted dangerous driving and was sentenced to 12 months in prison – suspended for two years.

The high-impact crash left him in a coma for four days and he continues to recover from his injuries, the Grimsby Telegraph reported.

Dashcam footage from Humberside Police shows him speed away from officers in his white Ford Fiesta, as the driver dangerously serves between lanes at high speeds.

As a roundabout approaches, the car comes up behind a 32-tonne red lorry.

It suddenly crashes into the side of the lorry, as its bonnet appears to explode and splinters into small pieces.

The collision also takes a chunk out of the lorry, forcing it off the road and into an embankment.

As black smoke rose from the car’s wreckage, police frantically worked to pull the teenager out alive – despite the fire risk – to give him first aid at around 4am.

Clark survived after entering a coma for four days but needed the support of crutches as he attended court.

The police officer in the car behind sustained minor injuries and shock.

Judge John Thackray QC said it was only ‘pure chance’ that no one was killed in the case and that Clark would have spent many years in prison if it had been fatal.

He told Clark: ‘You should consider yourself extremely fortunate.’

Investigating officer PC Sean Hutchinson from Humberside Police Serious Collision Unit said: ‘Due to the dangerous manner of Clark’s driving after a fail-to-stop, it was not possible to immediately bring the pursuit to a safe resolution. As to do so could have risked endangering the lives of the officers engaged in the pursuit.’

Clark was also banned from driving for two years and will need to pass an extended test to take to the roads again.
