Mail journalist Ian Birrell wins prestigious award for Public Service Journalism at the British Journalism Awards

Ian Birrell’s peerless reporting for the Mail and Mail on Sunday has been recognised once again, this time by judges at the British Journalism Awards.

At a glittering ceremony in London, Birrell took the prestigious award for Public Service Journalism for a series of fearless despatches from the front line in Ukraine, and an article championing the rights of same-sex parents in Italy.

Judges said ‘his range is incredible and his ability to bring public interest investigative journalism to a mass audience incomparable’.

Birrell was also highly commended in the Features Journalism category.

Sian Boyle’s articles for the Mail on Chinese influence in Britain helped earn her the award for Technology Journalism.
