Have you ever had that dreaded moment that you reach for some bread for lunch only to realise the moment you touch it that it has gone stale?

Well that no longer has to be fatal, after the revelation of a trick which anyone can make use of to rejuvenate your bread.

And better still, this hack is free – all you need is water and an oven.

The trick was tested and confirmed by @andrelifehack on TikTok, and the results were certainly impressive.

Viewers seem to agree, and the clip titled ‘how to make old bread alive again’ how to  now has over 70,000 likes.

TikTok’s @andrelifehack rinsed his stale baguette before putting it in the oven for 20 minutes to freshen it up

After a taste-test, the hack gets a positive review

The video begins with Andre hitting a stale baguette against the table, proving how hard it has become.

He rinses the baguette under the tap, and puts it in the oven at 200C for 20 minutes.

When he removes it from the oven, the bread appears to have its spring back, and he gives an affirmative taste test.

People raced to the comments to confirm that the hack works, and even suggest improvements.

One user said: ‘The bread thing works, I just did it the other day.’

Multiple said wrapping the bread in  tinfoil makes the trick even more effective, giving you ‘soft and steamy’ bread.

However, one person in the comments did issue the caveat: ‘You have to eat it fast. It will get stale faster.’

This comes after the Good Housekeeping Institute advised on how to keep bread fresher for longer

Earlier this year, the Good Housekeeping Institute shared their tips to keep bread fresher for longer in the first place.

If you are making your own bread, fatty ingredients like oil, butter, or eggs help the loaf last longer, and for any you will not need, freeze it as soon as possible.

For shop-bought bread, leave it out at room temperature rather than in the fridge. Keep loaves in an air-tight plastic bag, and bakery bread  which comes in paper bags should be wrapped in cling film.
