Guardian accuses comedian Joe Lycett of bullying Liz Truss

Now even the left-wing Guardian accuses bumbling comedian and Channel 4 presenter Joe Lycett of bullying Liz Truss in his new show

Left-wing Channel 4 presenter Joe Lycett has been accused of bullying another former Tory Prime Minister, Liz Truss – by the Labour-supporting Guardian.

Reviewing his new programme Late Night Lycett, the newspaper comments on how the comedian continually ridicules Truss alongside a papier-mache model of the politician during the show.

On the first night of the series last month, Lycett said: ‘One person we haven’t managed to book this week is Liz Truss, I really miss Liz Truss.

‘She was our greatest leader, the finest one-and-a-half months we have ever achieved.’

He later sarcastically apologised, saying she is a ‘human, a human who eats the organs of dogs’.

The review on the Guardian’s website comments: ‘Lycett’s current comedic muse, Liz Truss, is present too – not in person but in papier-mache form, with a set of references throughout the night.

‘It’s a theme that seems set to be a weekly instalment, although the joke risks becoming tired and bullying.’

Lycett, 34, paid to take an advert out in Ms Truss’s local newspaper, the Eastern Daily Press, to invite her on to the first night of his series.

He wrote: ‘I’ve got a new live TV show starting March 31 at 10pm on Channel 4 (thanks to your successor accidentally forgetting to abolish it) and I would love for you to join us.

‘We’d give you a platform, allow you to speak your mind and provide at least three glasses of Echo Falls Pinot Grigio.’

Lycett also made a painting of Ms Truss, 47, which he displays with a caption alongside it saying: ‘F****** Hell.’

In his programme, a member of the production team held the painting above a toilet.

Lycett also left viewers wincing on his programme last Friday when he questioned the live audience about their toilet habits.
