A British couple have revealed their holiday horror after spotting a hidden camera on the wall of their Airbnb – shortly after having sex on the sofa bed.

Mike and Michaela Kennedy, from Cardiff, had been driving across northern Spain when they decided to book the small £130-a-night villa in Zaralejo for three nights earlier this month.

But the couple say that when they arrived they found the property in a ‘disgusting’ condition and had to deal with ‘piles of rubbish’ and dead flies, The Sun reports.

Despite pictures on Airbnb showing a clean home surrounded by beautiful gardens, conveniently located just 25 miles from Madrid, in reality the garden was overgrown and the couple had to spend the first hour of their stay tidying up, they say.

And Mr Kennedy, 55, said that the ‘icing on the cake’ was the small camera, disguised to look like a motion sensor or air freshener, mounted near the top of the living room wall – which they had discovered after an impromptu sex session on the sofa bed.

Mr Kennedy said: ‘I noticed the camera on the living room wall, pointing straight through the living area. It was small enough that you’d think it was a movement sensor, it looked like a phone camera.’

He realised that they had made love ‘straight in view of the camera’.

The Kennedys also say they had to endure a dreadful night’s sleep because an ‘industrial pump’ in the bathroom would keep making noise throughout the night after starting up at 11pm.

Despite booking the property for three nights, the couple left on the first morning after finding the camera, and Mr Kennedy complained to the property’s owner, Luis.

But the owner said that the couple should expect flies because the house was in the countryside.

Mr Kennedy complained to Airbnb, describing his customer service experience as ‘shocking’, claiming that at first he was told that hosts are allowed to have cameras for ‘security reasons’.

The company reportedly then offered him a 50% refund and closed the case, but Mr Kennedy persisted with them and was later given a full refund, and the company offered to reimburse any additional expenses the couple accrued.

‘I told them that this property shouldn’t be listed, it’s so run-down. It needs a complete refurbishment, it looks disgusting,’ Mr Kennedy said.

He and his wife Michaela, 57, drove to a hotel after the ‘traumatic’ experience and paid £110 a night for their stay.

Airbnb says that monitoring devices are permitted in common spaces, but hosts must fully disclose any surveillance equipment in the property listing.

Concealed devices, and any in private spaces such as bedrooms or bathrooms, are not permitted.

An Airbnb spokesperson told The Sun Online: ‘We have suspended this Host while we investigate and are providing the guest with our full support. We enforce strict rules on recording devices and take action on rare issues brought to our attention.’
