Boy, 5, knocked from bike and killed in horror smash with van | The Sun

A BOY aged five has died after being hit by a van as he rode his bike.

Ollie Simmons-Watt was knocked from the bicycle during the horror yesterday.

He was rushed to hospital but sadly couldn't be saved and was declared dead shortly after.

Police have now launched a probe and are appealing for witnesses.

They said the single vehicle collision took place in Limavady, County Londonderry near Irwin Avenue.

PSNI sergeant Amanda McIvor said: "It was reported shortly after 3.40pm that a van had struck a child in the Irwin Avenue area.

"We believe at this time that Ollie was on his bike in the area at the time of the collision.

"Officers attended alongside colleagues from the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service and Air Ambulance NI, and the boy was taken to hospital for treatment, but unfortunately died from his injuries.

"The road, which was closed for a time following the collision, has since re-opened."

Anyone with information or dashcam footage has been asked to call police on 101 quoting reference number 1235 of 29/09/22.
