Anglesey incident: Gareth Bowen, 46, still missing near Trearddur Bay two days after he was swept into sea from rocks | The Sun

A HUGE search launched for a 46-year-old man who vanished while fishing on rocks two days ago has been called off.

Gareth Bowen was last seen fishing in Trearddur Bay, Anglesey, North Wales, on Saturday night.

A massive search involving lifeboats and the coastguard was launched amid reports he had gone into the water.

The operation has now been called off by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency with Gareth still missing.

His mum Lorraine said: "Our family are extremely grateful for the searches and effort undertaken by all of the agencies involved in the searches to find Gareth since Saturday evening.”

The coastguard confirmed an "extensive" search was carried out in rough seas and strong winds.

Officials had asked people to avoid the area on Saturday as they were "impeding" the operation.

Andy Hodgson, of Trearddur Bay lifeboat station, confirmed crews were called on Saturday to reports "someone had been swept off rocks while fishing".

Police enquiries into the incident are ongoing.
