It is not uncommon for Hollywood stars to wear eye-catching looks on the Cannes red carpet.

But Ukrainian model Alina Baikova made a particularly bold fashion statement – wearing a short dress emblazoned with the message ‘F*** YOU PUTIN’.

The 34-year-old, who has modelled for Calvin Klein, Lanvin and Dior, arrived in a beige raincoat which she then opened up to reveal a defiant insult aimed at Vladimir Putin, splashed in giant letters across an outfit in the blue and yellow of the Ukrainian flag.

She was immediately surrounded by five black-suited security guards who escorted her away.

Footage of her protest at the event on Friday went viral on social media.

Ms Baikova, born near Ukraine’s capital Kyiv, told her 3.5million Instagram followers: ‘Here is the proof of the ‘REAL SUPPORT’ for Ukraine! I got arrested and asked to leave the carpet as the festival doesn’t want to get political.’

Russian films have been banned at the festival in response to the war.
