Pensioner in her 70s is found murdered in her own home near Crystal Palace FC ground as police launch manhunt to find killer

A pensioner in her 70s has been found murdered in her own home near the grounds of Crystal Palace football club – as police launched a manhunt to find the killer. 

Officers were called by paramedics on Wednesday morning to Ladbrook Road in Thornton Heath, south London after the body of the woman aged in her 70s was discovered.

A large police cordon is in place around the house close to Crystal Palace Football Club’s Selhurst Park ground in Croydon.

Detectives are appealing for anyone with information to come forward. No arrests have been made at this stage. 

They want to speak with anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area of Ladbrook Road.

Detective Chief Inspector Kate Blackburn of the Met Police’s Specialist Crime Squad, who is leading the investigation, said: ‘We are in the early stages of our investigation but I am urging anyone with information to contact us as soon as possible.

‘An elderly woman has lost her life and it is vitally important that we establish what happened.

‘Did you hear anything, or see someone in the area who looked out of place? Please call us.’

The victim’s family has been informed but formal identification is yet to take place.

A post-mortem examination will be held in due course to establish the exact cause of death.
