Mystery as man and woman are found dead in room at a Premier Inn along with an ‘unknown substance’

  • Police were called to Premier Inn in Romford after the pair were unresponsive
  • Investigations are ongoing and police are treating the deaths as ‘unexpected’ 

A man and a woman were mysteriously found dead in a Premier Inn hotel room in Essex, yesterday afternoon. 

An ‘unknown substance’ was also found in the hotel room in Romford, Essex, and police are treating their deaths as ‘unexpected’. 

The pair were pronounced dead by police after being found unresponsive at the hotel chain in Mercury Gardens, Romford at 12.43pm on Saturday afternoon.

Investigations into the their deaths are ongoing with specialist officers also being called to the East London hotel to look into an unknown substance that was found in the room.

Police confirmed that that the London Ambulance Service and London Fire Brigade attended the incident. 

A Metropolitan Police statement said: ‘Police were called at 12:43hrs on Saturday, 1 July after two people were found unresponsive at a hotel in Mercury Gardens, Romford.

‘Officers attended along with the London Ambulance Service and the London Fire Brigade. A man and a woman were pronounced dead at the scene.

‘Specialist officers also attended due to concerns about a substance that was found at the scene.

‘The deaths are being treated as unexpected and further enquiries are taking place to establish the circumstances.’

A spokesperson for Premier Inn told The Sun: ‘Our thoughts are with the friends and family of these guests at this terribly sad time.

‘Our team are assisting the police with their investigation.’
