A woman has accused Bill Cosby, 84, of sexually assaulting her at the Playboy Mansion in the mid-1970s after she and a friend met the comedian at a park as teenagers.

However Cosby’s defense team have employed the ‘Donkey Kong defense’ after one key witness claimed to have played the game at the mansion in 1975 – six years before its release.

Judy Huth, 62, who has filed a civil lawsuit against Cosby for unspecified damages, told jurors they ‘bantered’ with Cosby after they spotted the comedian while playing frisbee at a public park.

She and a friend, Donna Samuelson, now 64, walked closer and recognized Bill Cosby, Sidney Poitier and other actors, who were filming ‘Let’s Do It Again’.

Cosby approached the girls and invited them to meet him the following Saturday at a tennis club. She and Samuelson were ‘excited,’ she said.

‘We were kids. It was a celebrity. It was out of the norm, that’s for sure,’ she said.

Donna Samuelson has said that she was playing Donkey Kong (pictured) while the alleged 1975 sexually assault occurred, however the game was not released until 1981

The girls met Cosby at the club, where they briefly watched him play tennis then went to the local house where he was staying.

There, Cosby suggested they play a game a game of pool, and suggested the stakes.

‘He said for every game I lose I have to drink a beer, and for every game he loses he has to drink a beer,’ Huth testified.

Huth, then 16, said she had between one and three beers.

After they drove to another location, Huth realized it was the Playboy Mansion when Cosby pointed out a picture of Hugh Hefner on the wall.

In her lawsuit, Huth said Cosby forced her to perform a sex act while she was at the mansion.

She previously said the incident occurred in 1974, when she was 15, but recently said she now believes it was 1975.

Judy Huth (pictured arriving for opening statements on June 1) said she believes the alleged incident took place a year later, 1975, than previous claimed

Bill Cosby’s defense attorney Jennifer Bonjean (pictured) has argued that Huth is not telling the truth as her friend Donna Samuelson claims to have been playing Donkey Kong – which didn’t exist at the time of the sexual assault

Cosby’s lawyer Jennifer Bonjean said in opening statements that the alleged assault of Huth was a ‘fabrication,’ though Cosby did not dispute that he invited Huth and her friend to the mansion.

‘The evidence is going to show that Ms. Huth is not telling the truth,’ she said.

Donna Samuelson testified about the game room with an adjacent bedroom where Huth says Cosby forced her to perform a sex act.

‘You testified multiple times that you were playing Donkey Kong,’ Bonjean told Samuelson, referring to a 2014 police interview and a 2016 deposition in Huth´s case.

‘If I did I did,’ Samuelson said. ‘I understand it wasn’t around yet.’

Donkey Kong: Iconic arcade game from the 80s

Gameplay from Donkey Kong 1981

Donkey Kong was an instant hit when it was released as a platform video game by Nintendo in 1981

The game could only be played on large arcade cabinet machines

The game play features Mario trying to cross platforms to rescue Pauline from the giant gorilla named Donkey Kong

Arcade video games were first introduced in the early 1970s, with Pong

But many classics weren’t released until later on, like Space Invaders (1978) and PacMan (1980)

Bonjean played a clip from the deposition, in which Samuelson referred to the game several times.

When asked to explain the discrepancy, Samuelson answered, ‘I got the name wrong. I just kept saying that because it was a game. It could have been Atari.’

She also said she was playing the game when Cosby came up behind her and put his hands on her shoulders before she shook them off.

Bonjean showed Samuelson and the jury a photo of the game room taken in 2016, where a Donkey Kong game could be seen, and asked whether similar photos taken years after 1975 could have affected her memory and testimony.

Samuelson replied that she hadn’t seen such an image until the 2016 photo was shown to her in court during her testimony last week.

During his opening statement on Wednesday, Huth’s attorney Nathan Goldberg sought to head off the issue, telling jurors they were going to be hearing ‘the Donkey Kong defense’ from Cosby’s lawyers.

‘So she got the name wrong,’ Goldberg said, ‘so what?’

Bonjean embraced the term in her opening, saying Huth’s similar prior statements about Samuelson playing the game, and photos showing it in the room later, were evidence that the two women were coordinating a false story.

The civil trial in California, one of the last legal cases against Cosby, is taking place 11 months after Cosby was freed from prison when Pennsylvania’s highest court threw out his sexual assault conviction in a different case.

The comedian and actor is best known for his role as the lovable husband and father in the 1980s television comedy series ‘The Cosby Show,’ earning him the nickname ‘America’s Dad.’

But his family-friendly reputation was shattered after more than 50 women accused him of sexual assaults over nearly five decades.

In 2018, Cosby was found guilty of drugging and molesting Andrea Constand, an employee at Temple University in Philadelphia, in his home in 2004.

Pennsylvania’s Supreme Court overturned Cosby’s conviction in June 2021, after Cosby had served more than two years of a three- to 10-year sentence.

The court said Cosby should not have faced the charges because a previous district attorney had publicly promised in 2005 not to prosecute him.

In March, the U.S. Supreme Court declined to review that decision.
