Inauguration Day schedule: Full timeline of events for January 20, 2021

 JOE Biden will become the 46th president of the US on January 20, 2021.

Festivities start in the morning and are expected to continue all day.

What is the Inauguration Day schedule?

An inaugural celebration for young Americans (10 am)

The Presidential Inaugural Committee (PIC) will host a first-ever curated livestream for young Americans.

It will be hosted by actress Keke Palmer, and will feature a special message from Dr Jill Biden.

There will also be commentary from historians Doris Kearns Goodwin and Erica Armstrong Dunbar and a segment on presidential pets produced by Nickelodeon.

Swearing-in ceremony (11:30 am)

President-elect Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris will be sworn in on the West Front of the US Capitol building.

Vice President-elect Kamala Harris will be be sworn in by Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor.

Then Biden will then be sworn in by Chief Justice John Roberts at noon ET, and will become the nation's 46th president.

After they take their oaths, Biden will deliver his inaugural address "laying out his vision to defeat the pandemic, build back better, and unify and heal the nation," according to the PIC.

In addition, pop superstar Lada Gaga will sing the national anthem and Jennifer Lopez will also perform.

There will be about 1,000 guests in attendance, including members of Congress.

Extra security measures are being taken in wake of the attack on the Capitol that took place on January 6.

Biden's address will be streamed at and is expected to be carried live on all major networks and platforms.

Pass in review (time TBD)

The President-elect, First Lady, Vice President-elect, and Second Gentleman will participate in a Pass in Review on the East front with members of the military, according to the PIC.

Pass in Reviews are a long-standing tradition that reflect the peaceful transfer of power to a new Commander-in-Chief. 

Wreath Laying at Arlington National Cemetery

The four of them will then visit Arlington National Cemetery to lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

They will be joined by President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama, President George W Bush and Laura Bush, and President Bill Clinton and Secretary Hillary Clinton.

Presidential escort

The new leader will receive a Presidential Escort from 15th Street to the White House, "with every branch of the military represented in the escort," according to the PIC.

Virtual parade across America

Biden will receive a Presidential Escort to the White House.

This will be followed by a Parade Across America, which will be televised and will feature "diverse, dynamic performances in communities across the country."

Celebrating America Primetime Special (8:30 pm)

The 90-minute prime-time program is hosted by Tom Hanks and will feature remarks from Biden and Harris.

Special guests and performers include Ant Clemons, Jon Bon Jovi, Foo Fighters, John Legend, Eva Longoria, Demi Lovato, Bruce Springsteen, Justin Timberlake, and Kerry Washington.
