Gunman opens fire near synagogue in Vienna

A gunman opened fire near a synagogue in Austria’s capital city, reports say.

Video posted online just before 2:45 p.m. shows two people running and ducking for cover in Vienna after a series of gunshots.

At least half a dozen more shots ring out again at the end of the short clip, which was posted by BNO News.

Vienna police urged people to avoid all public transportation and public places following the reports of gunfire, the outlet reported.

Initial reports note casualties, but it was unclear how many. The circumstances of the shooting were not immediately known.

The Austrian public broadcaster, ORF, reported a large-scale police presence near the synagogue, which is near the center of the city, close to the Danube river.
