Ex-flight attendant who had sex with schoolboy, 15, released after week in jail

A former flight attendant who had sex with a minor has been released on bail after spending just a week in prison.

Melissa Nosti, 33, from North Ryde in northern Sydney, had sex with a schoolboy, 15, while she worked as an attendance officer at his school in 2010.

The legal age of consent in most of Australia is 16, meaning ‘all sexual interactions between an adult and a person under the age of consent are considered abusive’.

Nosti pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 18 months in jail with a six-month non-parole period last week.

However, she was released on bail after appearing at Burwood Local Court on Wednesday.

Her lawyer told the court the former Tiger Air stewardess was a ‘low risk’ reoffender, according to a doctor’s report.

The lawyer also said Nosti ‘had employment history after this’, the Daily Telegraph reports.

Magistrate Susan Horan claimed her victim’s impact statement was ‘compelling’ but granted the former flight attendant bail.

Nosti’s bail conditions include her having only one mobile phone and giving the police her password when asked. She also must live at her Ryde address.

She is not allowed to contact the victim or be in the company of anyone over the age of 16.

Nosti is due at Sydney’s District Court for her appeal hearing later this year.
