UFC Announces Fan-Driven Fighter Bonuses To Be Paid in Bitcoin

The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) has announced a new program that will allow fan bonuses to be awarded to fighters in Bitcoin.

The professional MMA organization, which holds a partnership with Crypto.com, has announced a new fan bonus that will be paid to the top three fighters on its pay-per-view (PPV) events in Bitcoin. Fighters will receive bonuses ranging from $10,000 to $30,000, as voted by fans from around the globe. Voting will occur on the day of the event via the official Crypto.com website, and the bonuses will be paid through the platform in BTC.

According to a report by Cointelegraph, the first Bitcoin fan bonus will be paid during the upcoming UFC 273 PPV, featuring featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski taking on title challenger The Korean Zombie. The fight card is scheduled to take place on Saturday, April 9th.

The report claims the new, fan-driven Bitcoin bonus will be in addition to the UFC’s existing Fight of the Night and Performance bonuses, which are determined by the organization.

Dana white, president of the UFC, called the new bonus an “awesome way” for fans to get more engaged with the event:

This new Fan Bonus of the Night is an awesome way to get fans more engaged in our events while rewarding the fighters for bad-ass performances.

The UFC was among the first professional sports organizations to embrace crypto in a big way, signing a $175 million sponsorship deal with Crypto.com in July 2021.
