'British man' plunges six storeys to his death at Thai shopping centre in front of horrified tourists at holiday resort
A BRITISH man reportedly jumped to his death at a shopping centre in Thailand in front of horrified tourists on Thursday, it emerged this morning.
The unnamed victim allegedly leapt from the sixth floor of the Central Festival mall in the Bang Lamung district of the popular holiday resort of Pattaya City.
Police rushed to the scene at 5pm local time (11am Thursday BST) to reports that a man – described as white and roughly 50 years old – had thrown himself from the balcony.
He was found unresponsive and emergency services battled to save him as shoppers watched on in horror.
Local news sites reported that the victim is British, according to MailOnline.
The Sun Online has contacted the Foreign and Commonwealth Office for comment.
He is reported to have suffered catastrophic injuries including a fractured skull and a broken neck, Thai newspaper Siam Rath said.
The victim, who police say was not carrying identification, was rushed to Pattaya Memorial Hospital.
He was tragically pronounced dead a short time later, according to Bangkok-based news site Coconuts.
Two witnesses, including one who worked nearby, told police they saw the man climbing over the 5ft metal railing before jumping, the site added.
The pair rushed over to try to talk him down but he let go of the barrier and fell to his death, they claimed.
Panicked onlookers could be heard screaming in terror as the man then fell six-storeys to the ground floor of the busy shopping centre.
Thai police are working to identify the man and inform his relatives, local media said.
